Onboard non-volatile memory stores up to 10,000 event logs (alarms, over-limits, hardware failures, sensor OK failures), supporting fault tracing exported from a host computer. Channel data scaling, extreme values, and logical comparisons can be directly output to a DCS/PLC via the bus. Application scenarios: thermal power plants, combined cycle power plants, oil refining and petrochemical plants, and offshore platforms.

II. Main Hardware Functions

Rack Resource Management: All boards in the rack (MPC4, AMC8, CMC16, etc.) are polled via the VME backplane bus for unified configuration management and hot-swapping support.

Local HMI (Unique Advantage)

Front panel LCD display + operation buttons allow for local viewing of: channel status, vibration values, alarm information, and rack IP address. On-site inspections can be performed without a computer; the panel also includes an alarm reset button (AR).

VI. Common Fault Phenomena and Troubleshooting Directions

CPU panel black screen, no display

Check the RPS6U power supply and backplane VME bus contact; clean the gold fingers.

Network connection failure, host computer cannot find the rack

Verify ETH1/ETH2 IP and subnet; confirm the network cable is connected to the correct port; loose IOCN daughter card is a frequent fault point.

Frequent SLOT ERROR/Unrecognized I/O card reports

The alarm cannot be remotely reset; it can only be reset locally via a button.

MPS software permission settings and Modbus register remote reset function are not enabled.

The DIAG light remains red after startup.

There is a hardware fault on a board in the rack or a corrupted configuration file. The configuration should be cleared and reinstalled.

I. Power Industry (Most mainstream application, largest share of existing capacity)

1. Gas Turbine / Combined Cycle Power Plant

Equipment: Heavy-duty gas turbines (GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Ansaldo), combined cycle units with one or more turbines on each other

Monitoring Parameters: Bearing X/Y vibration, shaft vibration, axial displacement, rotor differential pressure, speed, overspeed protection, cylinder vibration, key phase

Functions:

1) Outputs hard-contact interlock to trip the turbine when vibration exceeds limits;

2) Sends real-time data to the power plant’s DCS;

3) Uploads raw vibration waveforms/spectrums to VibroSight for blade and bearing fault prediction.

Deployment: The gas turbine is mounted on a VM600 rack, and a CPUM rack is installed in the local control cabinet.

2. Steam Turbine Generator Sets (Thermal Power, Cogeneration, Self-owned Power Plants)

Equipment: Steam turbine, extraction condensing unit, back pressure unit

Monitoring: Shaft vibration, bearing vibration, thrust shaft displacement, eccentricity, thermal expansion, zero speed, vibration protection

Scenario Characteristics: The unit is a critical main equipment and must meet the power industry’s IEC 61508 SIL2 protection requirements; CPUM works with MPC4 protection cards to achieve safety interlocking.

3. Large Rotating Auxiliary Equipment in Power Plants

Boiler induced draft fans, forced draft fans, primary air fans, large circulating water pumps; small and medium-sized steam-driven feedwater pumps.

Mostly used for adding vibration protection and online monitoring to important auxiliary equipment.

II. Oil & Chemical Industry (Refining, Ethylene, LNG, Long-Distance Oil & Gas Transportation)

1. Large Centrifugal Compressors (Core Scenarios)

Equipment: Cracking gas compressors, propylene compressors, circulating hydrogen compressors, natural gas booster compressors

These high-speed rotating equipment have a high risk of shaft vibration and are generally equipped with the Vibro-Meter VM600 first-generation system.

The CPUM collects vibration protection signals and connects them to the rolling mill/blast furnace central control DCS.

IV. Marine & Ocean Power (Merchant Ships, Special Engineering Vessels, Offshore Power)

Marine gas turbine generator sets, large turbochargers, main turbines

Marine engine rooms have compact spaces, requiring rack-mounted centralized collection of vibration and overspeed signals.

Monitoring data is transmitted to the ship’s engine room monitoring system via CPUM Ethernet.

V. Air Separation Industry (Large Air Separation Units)

Large air compressors, turboexpanders (core rotating equipment in air separation)

Expanders operate at extremely high speeds, requiring stringent vibration and axial displacement protection. Many existing projects use the first-generation VM600 CPUM solution.

VI. Two Typical Application Modes Based on System Function (Two Combinations Supported by the Same CPUM)

Mode 1: MPS Mechanical Protection System (Safety Interlock Priority)

Rack Configuration: CPUM + IOCN + MPC4 / AMC8 Protection Card
